The Art of Killing Stereotypes

The project “Kill the Barbies, the art of killing stereotypes” is a criticism of the objectification of women. Born from the idea of breaking with the canons of beauty that society imposes, especially on the female sex, through different means of communication.

Starting from the imaginative historical Bible of “Adam and Eve” where the woman is born from a rib of Adam to seduce and induce him to sin and distract him as a toy, until today.

We use the “Barbie” doll as a model and metaphor for the plasticisation of women.

Applying the same communication weapons, we pay tribute to some films that deal with this subject, parodying the aesthetic perfection that the media sell us.

It is the representation of how society sees and uses us to sell us that aspirational and unreal idea of girls. The industry that we have inherited uses the media to become prototypes of women-objects. With this stereotyped toy, we suggest from small so that as we grow older we want to be “perfect dolls”, that only think about buying and being beautiful. This media pressure generates macho behaviors that lead to more serious problems such as gender abuse, violations or inequality of work parity, to name a few. It can also cause physical and mental illnesses such as bulimia, anorexia, depression, tanorexia, among others. As well as the tendency to non-acceptance and abuse of aesthetic operations to be more beautiful, thin, tall, busty, culotte woman or whatever is necessary to fit in that “suit” and beauty ideal.
